“And God said, ‘Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.’ And it was so. God called the dry ground ‘land,’ and the gathered waters he called ‘seas.’ And God saw that it was good.”
-Genesis 1:9-10

There are times in our lives when it can feel like we’re drifting in an ocean of apathy, indifference, and confusion.  Our society has broken away from the idea of absolute truth and, as a result, we’ve been left with a philosophy that has much in common with the sea.  Everyone can choose whichever ‘boat’ and head in any direction they want.  In their eyes, there is nothing solid and unchanging so it doesn’t matter which direction you head.  The only thing that matters in this fluid, post-modern way of thinking is that you’re “true to your heart.”  Never mind the fact that the heart is deceitful and desperately wicked (see Jeremiah 17:9).  Fortunately, the reality is not this bleak.  We may be surrounded by a great deal of confusion and it may even seem to go on as far as the eye can see; however, there is a land that God has prepared.  There is a rock that can withstand ever storm and every wave.  There is a foundation upon which we can build our lives that will provide stability.  God has not left us adrift on an endless sea; physically or spiritually.  In the same way that he created land so that man would have some place to rest his feet, he has prepared a spiritual rock where we can set our feet and begin to build our lives.

Christ is the rock upon which we can stand victoriously.  Through him, every wave can be withstood and every storm can be weathered.  At the end of his sermon on the mount, he told his listeners that there are two kinds of people in this world: those who show their wisdom by building their lives upon God’s Word and those who put their folly on display by trying to build something that will last on the shifting sands of their own imaginations.  Today, do you find yourself tossed on the waves of this life, searching out a land?  Have you tried to build a life on human philosophy?  There is a better land.  His name is Christ!  Turn from the follies of this world and build your all on Him!
