TfC – Daily Buffet – 11/16/16
TFC - Daily Buffet

Good afternoon friends!

The TfC Daily Buffet serves up some of the best articles, videos, and podcasts of the day so you don’t have to spend hours scouring through the garbage to get to the good stuff. Have something you’d like to see on a future menu? Send us a link and we’ll consider it!

Today’s Menu

1. ‘Why Do We Tell God What We Need If He Already Knows?‘ – SeedBed has been putting out a number of articles on prayer. I linked to one the other day. Here’s another good, short piece on why we pray – hint: it isn’t just to ‘get stuff.’

2. Did You Overdose (On the Election)? – Aaron Visser has a thought-provoking article up on ‘Jesus Creed.’ Maybe it’s just me but I feel like there was some serious ‘overdosing’ on this election. It isn’t that we shouldn’t care, it’s just that we should care about Kingdom things more. And if we do, is it reflected in our words and actions?

3. Remonstrance Podcast Minisode 1: What Exactly is Wesleyan-Arminianism? – I’m really enjoying this podcast. If you’ve been drunk on Calvinistic websites/podcasts/sermons/books, take a moment to listen to an alternative voice! And the minisodes are only about 5 minutes long.

4. ‘Don’t Believe Everything You Think or Hear‘ – Frank Viola reminded me of how easily we believe things that aren’t true. As a young Christian, I spent a lot of time on some very negative Christian websites. They called themselves ‘Discernment Ministries’ but really they were just rumor mills. We need to be very careful about believing the worst about people – especially people we disagree with. Instead, we ought to follow Jesus’ advice and treat others the way we’d like to be treated.

5. ‘Johnny Cash, the Poet in Black‘ – If you know anything about me, you know that I love Johnny Cash. I can’t wait to read this new book of poetry – mainly because I know there will be a Christian flavor to much of it. In the mean time, if you’ve never read his novel ‘The Man in White‘ (it’s a novel about the Apostle Paul’s conversion) I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Bon Appétit!

Hopefully this will keep you filled up until tomorrow. And remember, if you’ve seen an article, video, or podcast – or if you’ve been reading a really good book – that you think we ought to add to the menu, comment below and we’ll see about putting it on.

And remember, if you subscribe, you can get a free copy of ‘A Disciple’s Manifesto’, my vision for Christian discipleship.
